Hazrat Imam Mahdi (as) bears the special characteristics and more from the previous prophets. He is the embodiment of their virtues and qualities. He carries their signs and is the inheritor of all that they stood for and what was revealed upon them. The following article mentions the similarity between Hazrat Yunus (as) and Imam Mahdi (as).
Shaykh Sadooq through his own chain of narrators has quoted from Mohammed bin Muslim that he said: “I came to Imam Baqir (as) in order to ask him about the Qaem of Aale Mohammed. The Imam (as) himself initiated the matter and said: O Mohammed bin Muslim! In the Qaem of Ahle Bayt of Mohammed (sawa) are present similarities to five prophets: Yunus bin Matta, Yusuf bin Yaqub, Musa, Isa and Mohammed – peace be on them all. As for the resemblance to Yunus bin Matta it is that he would return from occultation to his people as a young man though being advanced in age.” (Kamaluddin, volume 1, page 327)
